It’s the time of year when many snowmobilers put away the sleds and turn their thoughts to summer hobbies, despite some of the deepest snow depths of the year at high elevation and the many spring storms that still offer deep powder. We’re lucky to be invited out by the people of Pinedale, Wyoming to throw a movie premier to raise money for breast cancer. The event is being held by the Pinedale Snow Explorers at the Pinedale Theater, 153 Entertainment Ln. There’s gonna be raffles, door prizes, theater concensions and our favorite…an autograph session with the Boondockers Crew! Get your favorite autographs and meet the riders of Boondockers. Just 4 days ago I was running in 70 degree temperatures and sunny weather, that was before “Brutus.” Starting last Friday a potent winter storm (“Brutus”) parked itself over portions of Northern Utah. As the intial snow reports came in the sledding community was abuzz with excitement. By the time the first foot was down, several local sledders had a mild seizure due to the over-excitement. At the 2 foot mark, my phone started to ring with messages about riding plans for the weekend. At this point, I held off on riding plans for the weekend, noting to my fellow riders my vast experience and citing the dangers of riding in 2 feet of powder with no base. On Saturday, lake effect snow from the Great Salt Lake kicked into full gear and the snow totals kept climbing. Somewhere between 3 and 4 feet, I did a 180 and changed my mind about the dangers of riding with no base.
