Canada Trip Report

April 19th, 2010 by Dan Gardiner

This year’s Canada trip was one for the record books! Riding with Dan Davidoff in the mountains of Southern British Columbia has become an annual tradition for the Boondockers group, and for good reason. The Kootenay, Valhalla, and Norns mountain ranges offer some of the best snowmobile riding on the planet and Dan Davidoff (the “Krazy Canadian”) knows them like the back of his hand.

Phatty, Rick Barker, Jeff Danielson, Ryan Nelson, and I headed up from Utah and we met up with Kris Kaltenbacher (aka “Smasher”) from Team Summit/Nevada in Boise, Idaho. After 14 hours of driving and minus one group member at the border…we finally arrived at the scenic Valhalla River Suites in the Slocan Valley. Every year we know that crazy suff is going to happen in Canada, you just hope that you’re not the one who totals your sled in the process.

Smasher and the Krazy Canadian immediately hit it off and I don’t think we stopped laughing for the rest of the trip… I don’t know if its their affinity for incorrectly spelling everything with a K or just their common love for anything a little wacky, but these two guys must be twins separated at birth. The week was full of big first ascents, huge cliff drops, gap jumps, and technical climbs. We also rode with 2 of the newest members of the team – the Greziuk brothers from Saskatchewan, and boy can those farmers ride! Look for the full story in Boondockers 7 and Krazy Canadian Adventures 3…but here are a few pictures for now. Enjoy the rest of your winter!

Ryan Nelson catches a nice view of the valley

Smasher finds his way through a pillow line

Rick Barker gets technical on his M7 turbo. Oh yeah, did I mention Rick has been on a turbo all year?

Are you talking to me?

Is that a Krazy Canadian?
